Pay Close Attention

Dad and I went for a walk along this long-abandoned disused railway line near my house. What began as a walk eventually turned into a funghi and lichen hunt.

We found so many different varieties; so many shapes, sizes and colours everywhere we went.

As we didn't know enough about the mushrooms to feel safe eating them, instead we became fascinated with their differing forms.

Shapes you would think unlikely to belong to the fungus family began appearing.

Some dramatic in structure, creating perfect architectural shapes just inches from the ground.

Some look more poisonous than others, naturally. It's amazing what you can find on a walk in the woods.

And if anyone out there can identify any of these mushroom and lichen varieties, do comment and let me know. I am curious.

  1. Beautiful shots! Looks like you walked under them. The yellow one is Calocera viscosa- yellow staghorn fungus.
