These dry stone enclosures were spaced along a ridge overlooking the more verdant valley to the north. I am always upset by shooting, and these are probably shelters for shooters to pick off the wildlife from behind the safety of a stone wall. Whilst we were there, we saw a sparrowhawk, a buzzard, numerous skylarks and a heron. Wildlife 1:0 hunters.
Our descent into the next valley brought us alongside startling grey rocky outcrops, as the heather dwindled.
We almost always find derelict houses on our walks. They stand testament to a time when many more people lived off the land, and whilst they cry out for redevelopment, there is an odd beauty to their decrepit, pigeon-filled hulls.
If I find time to do one thing each month that isn't work related, I try and get out for a walk with Dad.
What a beautiful spot. I can imagine all you can hear are birds.

ReplyDeleteit is good to get out and about and i know what you mean about the wild life and shooting, i know it goes on but i dont dwell on it.
