The Future's Pear Shaped

As I'm meant to be working (Days until deadline 3 - 0 Essays completed), I thought I'd have a potter about outside, and look what I found!

Not many people like dandelions, but I really do. I love the way they add a touch of fresh yellow glamour to an otherwise boring bit of lawn. I know you will probably all think I am bonkers, but before you decide, take a look at this:

If you look closely (click on the picture to enlarge), you can even see tiny bits of pollen on those gorgeously curly bits (stamen?). I know this is not a conventional thing to like. I am, after all, a kind of gardener - or so I like to think as I potter about in the soil for fun - but there you go, I've said it: I like dandelions. Please don't hurt me.

These beauties, unfortunately not from my garden - but from a kerbside nearby - are grape hyacinths. Aren't they amazing?

But, for me today has some even bigger news than dandelions faring well and grape hyacinths flowering on someone else's patch.

Today.....

Chris' pear tree in-a-pot has blossomed for the first time! Actually, it had a silly moment last November and grew a few blossoms then, but December arrived and put it in its place. This is the first spring blossom we've ever had from it. Isn't it lovely?

I hope your gardens are all doing swimmingly too!

  1. I love your container garden! i would love to see more of what you have planted! is the pear tree happy in its container? does it require lots of water in the winter months?

and a silk screening tutorial would be so neat, i would love for you to post one!

  2. Oh it's such a dilema, I too love dandelions but as an allotment gardner (pretty rubbish) I would not get away with letting them take over. I do however hate Docks, except from when I have a nettle sting. The pear tree looks great, spring is an amazing time. So exciting. I see you are doing the 'tour' hopefully we will get over to see you.
