And Excellent Socks Shall Rule The World

As I haven't been able to make it onto here in a while, I thought I'd begin by showing you some of the things I have been up to for the last few days. Basically, I have been pouring all blood, sweat and tears into completing an essay on the subject of 'Graffiti and its Implications for the Understanding of Literacy in Early Modern English Churches'!

These are my favourite Big Pink Socks. They kept me going throughout.

Here are some AMAZING hogback tombstones, which have been cemented into the floor of a church in North Yorkshire. As part of my course requirement, I get to go on lots of lovely fieldtrips to places like rural North Yorkshire to look at church archaeology (and drink tea in splendid surroundings). For those of you not from North East England, hogback tombstones are unique to the North, including Cumbria in the North West, and have been known as far down as Lancashire. They are Anglo-Saxon in date. And rather cute.

And what have I been making?
More cosies!
This is a cosy for red wine, to keep it at a nice temperature on slightly chilly spring picnics. Very important, I'm sure you'll agree.

And this is a cosy for eggs. Apologies for the picture, I took it at my parents' house, as Mum has very kindly agreed to trial it for me.

Another poor photograph I'm afraid, but these chaps are felt lanterns. You need a battery powered candle (felt is non flammable, but it will stll scorch, just like human hair), and they are a lot of fun. I have named the tall one The Lighthouse.

  1. I was in York this weekend and on the way in stopped to look at St. Giles Church, Skelton. It is a great little 13th century church.
